| ABOUT THE ECONOMIC AND SOCIAL COUNCIL

This year’s ECOSOC Commission on Population and Development will address a critical yet often overlooked issue: the global divide in cancer outcomes. While cancer is rising worldwide, access to early screening, treatment, and specialists remains deeply unequal.

The first agenda will focus on  how low- and middle-income countries can close these gaps through international funding, government investment, and global partnerships. The second agenda will focus on preventable cancers linked to consumer products such as tobacco, ultra-processed foods, pesticides, etc.

Delegates will grapple with the challenge of protecting public health without destabilizing industries vital to national economies. This committee invites delegates to engage critically and compassionately as they debate how to confront cancer not just as a disease, but as a matter of equity, survival, and shared global responsibility.
