Letter from the Under-Secretary-Generals of Committees

Dear esteemed 2026 DCMUN delegates,

We are your DCMUN 2026 Under-Secretary-Generals of committees and are honoured to oversee six incredible committees for DCMUN’s second iteration. As the overarching theme for our conference is innovation, our committees encourage delegates to think outside the box for inventive, collaborative, and thoughtful solutions to the intricate issues at hand.

For DCMUN’s first edition of a bilingual General Assembly, delegates will enhance their diplomatic skills, whether seasoned or new to MUN, through two timely and impactful committees. In the UN General Assembly Third Committee (SOCHUM), the agenda titled The Gender Health Gap: Confronting Global Disparities in the Recognition and Treatment of Women’s Health will address how cultural norms, stigma, and medical neglect around key stages of women's lives undermine trust in healthcare systems. Ce comité vise à dénoncer les préjugés sexistes vécus par les femmes et minorités sexuelles dans le système de santé mondial, tout en examinant les causes systémiques de ces inégalités. Meanwhile, in the ECOSOC’ Commission on Population and Development (CPD), the agenda The Cost of Survival: Confronting Global Disparities in Cancer Prevention, Diagnosis and Care will explore how low- and middle-income countries can strive to close cancer care gaps through international funding and partnerships, while also tackling the rise of preventable cancers linked to harmful consumer products such as tobacco, ultra-processed foods, and pesticides.

The Sir George Williams Affair SA will bring delegates back into a momentous time in Montreal's history. Our other SA will revolve around the 2028 American election. The line between truth and reality is blurred in online spaces because of companies, AI-generated deepfakes, and foreign actors manipulating public opinion to influence the election. Delegates will act as some of the most important American politicians and entrepreneurs while discussing the future of free speech, online censorship, and electoral influence. This committee allows delegates to reflect on some of the most important issues within 21st century democratic systems, using the United States as a case study.

In our modern day twisted Greek Mythology committee delegates disguised as arrogant soaked gods have selfishly escaped their godly duties for famed mortal lives. Having upset a mysterious force with this sly usage of their godly roles, delegates must now work together through their intertwined personal conflicts to save the world from catastrophe. Dans notre comité bilingue, Squid Game, les participants vont entrer dans un nouveau jeu, jamais vu jusque-là. Les délégués doivent choisir entre leur désir de gagner le prix et les considérations éthiques liées à leur participation à ces jeux. Will there be a mutiny against game makers or will someone walk away with the prize money, that decision is entirely up to the way the delegates play the game and the secret motives that drive them. Both committees were chosen to not only allow delegates to creatively express themselves in adventurous and even at times magical manners but also to collaborate with others to solve real world issues facing our society today.

Whether you choose to participate in a General Assembly, ECOSOC, Specialized Agency or Crisis committee, we hope that our conference will give you nothing but new friendships, skills, and most importantly, the best weekend of January!
