Letter from the Under-Secretary-Generals of Committees
Honorable chairs, distinguished delegates, We welcome you all to the 3rd iteration of Dawson College’s Model United Nations Conference! Whether it is your first time trying out MUN, or you have done it so many times it almost feels like second nature, we are beyond excited to have you with us! As a member of your secretariat, I wish to go above and beyond to make this an incredible conference for you. We want to foster innovation, creativity, collaboration, and self-betterment for each and every delegate that walks through our doors — leaving you a more accomplished person by the end of the three days. This explains not only DCMUN27’s theme of Freedom of Thought, but also our dedication to inclusivity.
On my part, this inclusivity plays an integral role in our two General Assembly committees. My chairs and I wanted to make sure that all felt like they had a place in our work. Thus came to be our committees. A beginner friendly SOCHUM, accompanied by an advanced level bilingual ECOSOC contribute to promoting a place for all delegates. Moreover, our committee subjects — whether it be Environmental Justice or Neocolonialism — work at focusing on issues that we tend to overlook as a society. I cannot wait to hear what you guys have to say about these subjects, to see the ways that you guys will find to hope for a better world for us all. Even more importantly, I am eager to see you guys progress and evolve over the weekend, bringing everything we, as a conference, stand for to life.
Till we meet, dear delegates,
Atika Ume Fazal, Under-Secretary General of General Assemblies
As your USG of Crisis, I’m really excited to help make DCMUN 2027 a conference that delegates can enjoy, get creative with, and hopefully remember long after the weekend is over. After my first year of MUN, I’ve gotten to experience a lot of different conferences and styles of committees, and I’m excited to bring that experience into DCMUN and see what our staff can create together. More than anything, I’m looking forward to seeing how delegates take our ideas and make them their own.
For our crisis committees, we wanted to create three very different experiences. Ghibli brings a more creative and imaginative atmosphere, giving delegates the freedom to explore ideas and approach crisis in ways they might not normally get to. Love Island has a much more unpredictable and chaotic vibe, where delegates can expect things to develop in unexpected ways. Finally, our Black Hole committee takes a more grounded and realistic approach to crisis, focusing on creating an experience where decisions and their consequences feel meaningful. Each committee has its own identity, and we wanted to make sure there was something for different types of crisis delegates. I can’t wait to see the ideas, strategies, and absolute chaos that you guys bring into these rooms, and to see how you shape each committee throughout the weekend.

As the USG of Specialized Agencies for DCMUN 2027, I hope to share my passion for this type of committee by creating something that everyone participating can enjoy. Model UN has held a very special place in my heart ever since I started, and the Specialized agencies are a big reason for it. Not only have I had so many great experiences in these committees, but I’ve also had the opportunity to develop my world knowledge, creativity and social skills through them. When I participated at my first conference, SSUNS 2026, I was placed in what I now can only be described as my dream committee. Through the committee sessions I fell in love with the energy, the topics and the flow of the overall discussion. I hope these committees can bring those same elements to delegates and allow them to discover the same excitement that made Specialized Agencies so special to me.
Each Specialized Agency has its own uniqueness and variety, offering a wide selection of choices. Whether you’re interested in galactic political issues within Star Wars, looking to debate the future of our nation at the breaking point of Quebec’s political destiny through the 1995 referendum, or hoping to relive your childhood with Willy Wonka, only to uncover the dark truth behind a childhood favourite. For the law enthusiasts looking to try a different style of specialized agencies, then the International Court of Justice on the Columbia v. Peru 1950 will be right up your alley. There truly is something for everyone.
